Garo Avessian
Born in Beirut. Conductor and Composer of mostly chamber works that have been performed in Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Mr. Avessian studied piano from 1990 – 2000, as well as composition, harmony, theories and orchestration in Beirut. At Yerevan State Conservatory named after Gomidas, he studied composition with Ashautte Zohrabian from 2001 – 2006 and conducting with Aram Gharabekyan from 2003 – 2007 and earned a Master’s Degree in both subjects.
His Honors include Third Prize in Lazarus Saryan Vocal Competition in Yerevan 2004, for “Three Kuchak Hayren”. In 2005, received Presidential Award for the recognition as the healthiest person in Armenia, hence gifted Acting in Gor Vardanian’s Film “Destiny”. More recently, he was a finalist in the Film Music Category of the Young Composers’ Competition of the Narekatsi Art Institute in Yerevan 2006 for “Embers of the Sun” (imposed film).
Since 2008 he was assigned by Dr. Walid Gholmieh, to conduct the Lebanese Philharmonic Orchestra thus, his debut with LPO in October 2008 received an overwhelming critical acclaim from the audience and press.
Garo Avessian is an Associate Professor at Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music since 2008, he is also the Artistic Director and Conductor of Armenian Evangelical ARMISS Choir since September 2008, through his dynamic effort the Choir was selected to participate at Beirut Chants 5th Festival of Sacred Music in 12-12-12 with an outstanding concert performance.
Mr. Avessian also is the founder and the principal conductor of Ganachian College Chamber Orchestra since August 2009 and a part-time lecturer at Beirut Arab University since 2010.
He is a member of The Professional Musicians Syndicate in Lebanon since 2011.
In April 2012, he was selected by Maestro George Pehlivanian to participate at his Conducting Master Class and concert in Le Touquet – France.
In collaboration with Australian Embassy in February 2013, Garo Avessian conducted L.P.O. in participation with the International Flautist Ana De La Vega playing Myslivecek Flute Concerto in Beirut for the second time in the history after its premier in London.

In January 2014 Avessian was selected and participated in an International Conducting Masterclass with Donald Schleicher (Professor at Illinois State University) and Russell Miller (Professor at Eastman School of Music) in Chicago.

       Since October of the same year he was assigned by Dr. Walid Moussallem to train and conduct the The National Youth Orchestra of Lebanon and with a successful debut of Mendelssohn Symphony No. 10 he inspired the Young musicians for a better tomorrow in December of 2014. On the 21st of November Avessian was honored to conduct the prestigious concert of the 71st anniversary of the Independence day of the Republic of Lebanon.

       And very recently he was honored by the Ministry of Social Affairs in Lebanon, for the Autism Support event performance with IPSM chamber orchestra in Downtown Beirut on 27th of April 2015.

 In June, 2016, in collaboration with the Uruguayan Embassy, Avessian adapted the Uruguayan tangos and music with LPO for the first time in the land of the cedars.

    In collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of the Philippines for the 70th Anniversary of the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the Philippines and Lebanon Avessian was selected to conduct LPO with invited guest pianist Greg Zuniega.

   In December of the same year he conducted the Christmas Concert at Jesus & Mary School counting more than 555 members on the stage.

In July 2017 Mr. Avessian conducted the opening concert of the International Tyre  Festival with Jamal Bu Hosn.

He is a member of The Professional Musicians Syndicate in Lebanon since 2011 and Associate Professor at Lebanese National Higher Conservatory of Music in Conducting,    Orchestration & Harmony.

Since December 2017 Avessian is a Doctoral Student at National Academy of Sciences  of Republic of Armenia  supervised by Doctor of Arts, Professor, Honored Artist of RA, Head of the Music Department, Founder-President of the Tigran Choukhajian Foundation. Dr. Professor of the Diaspora Anna Astryan.

IPSM Institut Professionnel Saint Michel Garo Avessian is the founder of IPSM Chamber Orchestra at Bikfaya in the Matn District region of Mount Lebanon since July 2013.

Ganachian College Chamber Orchestra
Founded in 2009 by Garo Avessian. GCCO brings together the talented young students of Hamazkayin P. Ganachian College of Music in Beirut, providing the opportunity to study and perform a broad range of orchestral repertoire.
GCCO is committed to inspiring an overall cultural awareness and appreciation of music in its members and audiences, strengthening and helping stimulate interest in the development of school orchestra programs.
GCCO performs four to five concerts each season and regularly appears at the Hamazkayin Family Concert Series.
